Trick or Treat Halloween card for Mojo Monday 306

It took a little bit of trial and error to design this week's card for Mojo Monday's Sketch 306 but I think the end result turned out pretty well!  I knew I had wanted to make a Halloween card and even pulled out all my Halloween paper and embellishments, then I just sat there and thought, "Now what?".  Have you ever had those designing times?

What works well for me, is to start on the project and even if I don't particularly care for it, I go ahead and put it together.  I'll take a look at it again in a day or so and more often than not, I realize it wasn't as bad as I thought!  This was one of those cards!  I actually like it!

A few tips:
  • I wanted to "soften" the black background with some Whisper White craft ink and when I went to get it, I couldn't find it.  Well, it was a blessing in disguise!  I found my Illuminate Glimmer Stampin' Pad and thought why not try it instead.  It worked great!  Can you see the white-ish strokes in the first picture above?  That's the Illuminate and it not only gave me the white washed look I was going for, it also added shimmer!  (Who doesn't love a little extra shimmer on their project?)

  • I added some Basic Black ink with a sponge around the Summer Starfruit circle.
  • The Witches' Brew Designer Washi Tape worked well along the bottom of the card.  (I just love all the Washi Tapes and always look for an excuse to use it!)

Stamps:  Tags for You (131823)  Bundle with the Label Bracket Punch and save 15% - Use item #133294
Ink:  Black Staz On (101406)
Paper:  Whisper White card stock, Pumpkin Pie card stock, Basic Black card stock, Witches' Brew Designer Series Paper, Summer Starfruit card stock
Accessories:  Label Bracket Punch (for Trick or Treat sentiment; bundle with Tags for You & save!), Circle Framelits, Witches' Brew Washi Tape, Polka Dot Embossing Folder

If you ever have those times when it seems like the project is just not working out, know that you're not alone!  Try putting the project down for a day or two and come back to it later.  You never know what (and when) inspiration may strike!
